Correct the age on your account

For ten minutes after your first answer, a Correct your answer button on the Age row reopens the question. After that, an answer that would make you older is refused and only support can change it, through the email link the same row shows. An answer that makes you younger is accepted at any time.

There is a ten-minute window after your first answer in which you can change it yourself, and after that a person has to do it for you. Both paths start on the same row: Settings, then Data & Privacy, then Age.

Why you were asked in the first place

Nothing on the site asks for your age up front. The question appears once, in context, the first time you do something that needs an age on file. For nearly everyone that is unmuting as a granted speaker, or turning camera on. There is one more case: a free host's Everyone party opens with voice off, because hosting voice on a party anyone can walk into takes a paid plan, and a host who then turns voice on by hand is asked at that point too. It asks for a birth month and year, with nothing preselected and no hint of what any answer does.

If you have never done one of those things, the row reads Age on file: Not set and there is nothing to correct.

Inside the ten-minute window

The row reads your band in plain words, like 18 or older or 13 to 15, followed by the line You can change your answer for a few minutes after you set it and a Correct your answer button.

Pressing it reopens the question as Change your answer, with the same month and year selects and the same neutral wording. Pick again and the row settles on the new value. You can correct more than once inside the window: it is a time box, not a single-use token.

The window belongs to your first answer and is never restarted. Answering again does not buy you another ten minutes, and neither does waiting.

After the window

Two different things happen depending on which way your correction goes:

  • An answer that makes you the same age or younger is accepted at any time, because it only ever adds protection. That holds for every answer the product can compare against what it already has. An account whose stored answer predates the current record can be missing the birth month and year the comparison needs, and a same-age answer there is refused along with an older one, so use the support link.
  • An answer that would make you older is refused. That covers moving into an older band, and it also covers a birthdate that makes you older inside the same band, which is the case a band-only check would miss.

Once the window has closed, the row swaps the button for a short line reading To change the age on your account, ask us to correct it and an Email support link. The link opens your email app with the subject Age correction request and a two-line body naming your account email. It carries no birthdate and no band, so nothing about your age ends up in a URL, your browser history, or your mail client's.

Write what the correct date is in the email and a person will change the record.

A refused answer changes nothing you can see. The Age row keeps showing what it showed before: your last accepted answer, or Not set if you have never had one. The same options stay on it, whatever the reason was. Nothing on that page is a verdict on the answer you gave. If the age on your account is wrong, use the support link when the row has one, and write to support@vidreceipts.com when it does not. A person reads it.

The refusal message says nothing

If a correction is refused, the dialog reads Not updated and points you at the support link. It reads exactly the same whatever the reason, and that is the point: a message that varied by cause would let somebody work out what the product thinks of an answer by trying answers, which is precisely what a neutral age gate exists not to be.

So do not read the refusal as a verdict on the number you typed. If the age on your account is wrong, the support link is the way to fix it.

Growing up needs nothing from you

You do not have to re-declare as you get older. Your stored birth month and year are recomputed when you sign in, so a person who answered at 15 is on the 16 to 17 band when they turn 16 and an adult when they turn 18, without touching this row.
